About

The National AI Laboratory (AI Lab) was created as part of the National Technology Initiative, a state program aimed to foster federal and international technical industry by supporting startups and establishing infrastructure and competence centers where researchers and engineers can work on breakthrough technologies. Initially hosted by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technologies and called “Center for Artificial Intelligence”, we became an independent institution thanks to governmental and international grants in 2017. Being a multidisciplinary science and engineering research center, where talented scientists and engineers work together to answer the biggest questions facing humanity, we focus our research on priorities set by the President of the Russian Federation: Healthcare, Education, and Science.

As a national initiative focused on joint technology development between academia, industry and government in the area of artificial intelligence, we collaborate with leading universities in Russia, China, Japan, USA, and Europe, as well as global corporations.

Our Mission

Accelerate scientific discovery and key national interests, like health, education, and security, with artificial intelligence.

Our Research Objectives

  • Artificial Intelligence in combatting COVID-19, as well as predicting and preventing similar pandemics and bio-terrorism
  • Artificial Intelligence in combatting corruption on all levels
  • Artificial Intelligence in education and science
  • Conversational artificial intelligence, neural networks, deep machine learning, machine translation, text and speech recognition, technical vision, and neuromorphic and quantum research.
  • Autonomous devices: unmanned vehicles, androids, medical devices.
  • Smart networks for energy and communications, including work on “smart home” and “smart city” developments.

Our Values
